Orthodox Christian Education
There are several different types of education in the Orthodox Church,
including:
- Instruction of Children (Reading and Singing, Practical Instruction,
"The Law of God")
- Catechetical Instruction
- Advanced Education for Adults (laity, often in the form of Sunday
Schools and Lenten Programs)
- Training for Liturgical Service and Minor Orders (Choir Directors,
Readers, Canonarchs, Ecclesiarchs, Altar Servers, Subdiaconate, etc.)
- Training for Major Orders (Diaconate and Priesthood)
- Training for Monastics (Spiritual and Practical Instruction)
- Training for Teachers (Homiletics, Rhetoric, Theology, Patristics,
Ecclesiastical Law, etc.)
- Training for Iconographers
While it is not feasable to provide a complete course of education
in any one of these types of education on this web site, I have attempted
to provide the student with some of the foundational materials for pursuing
a course of studies, as well as to direct the student to various other
resources available elsewhere on the Internet.
