NEW:

Significant Differences in the Manner of Worship Between the Russian Old and New Rites new January, 2008

January 5, 2008: After much internal debate, I have decided to revise my classifications of hymnographic genres from 7 to 8, adding the Psalmodic (or Stichologic) Genre, which includes the responsorial-based singing of the Psalms at Vespers and Matins. In the majority of singing traditions, these have their own melodies and performance techniques, which justifies their classification as a separate genre. In light of this, every page under the category of Hymnography (see the left side-bar) has been updated and reorganized, with many more improvements and additions planned. (Some of the pages are mere place-holders and are waiting for me to add real content.)

September 2, 2007: The Regional Chant Systems pages have been consolidated, and will subsequently be revised in the near future. Several broken links have been fixed.
