The chant book called "Trezvon" contains Middle Rank feasts, usually celebrated with a Polieleos and/or Great Doxology. "Trezvony" Feasts are called by this popular term because the church bells are rung with the "trezvon", a ... (describe). The Middle Feasts are of three classifications:
Universal commemorations are celebrated everywhere by all Orthodox people; some of these commemorations (such as Ss. Peter and Paul, Protection/Pokrov, St. Nicholas and St. John Chrysostom) are usually celebrated as Vigil rank services.
National commemorations include saints of importance to Russia's history (such as St. Alexander Nevsky and Ss. Boris and Gleb); the priest may offer services according to local traditions.
Local commemorations, such as St. Procopius of Ustiug and St. Theodore of Yaroslavl, are celebrated with a Vigil in the vacinity of their location, or if a church is dedicated to the saint, or if the priest wishes to celebrate such services; otherwise, these are not obligatory celebrations, since they usually are of significance only to a particular region. A parish priest may decide whether or not to hold services on such days, and the Typikon allows him to determine what rank the feast will be celebrated as (and the abbot may determine the fasting rules in monasteries).
